A Farmers Market for Yelm
The Yelm Cooperative is pleased to announce that plans are well underway for a 2012 season Farmers Market in Yelm. We are in the final stages of site selection with the city, and outreach has begun for vendors, volunteers and sponsors.
We want to welcome Geana Henkes, our new Farmers Market Manager. Geana has a bachelor’s of arts in English and Communications and comes to us from a well rounded background of non-profit administration and several years of research on farmers market management. She also is undertaking her own small farm venture on 7.8 acres in the Lake Lawrence area.
She has taken on the Yelm Farmers Market project with gusto and looks forward to adding value to our cooperative community through a market which embraces our mission to provide food education to consumers and to support local, sustainable agriculture in our region and beyond.
The Yelm Farmers Market will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each Sunday at a location (TBA soon!) in downtown Yelm. Keep watching our website for updates. Our cooperative community is invited to be a part of this exciting new venture. Here’s how you can help:
Open a booth! If you are a farmer, processor or artisan, pick up a vendor packet at our retail store. Fill it out and either turn it back in to the store office, or scan and email to Geana – ghenkes@hotmail.com.
Volunteer! Serve on one of our three committees: operations, marketing and recruitment. Or, just sign up to help out with set up, parking attendance or to work at our manager’s booth different times during the season. Contact Geana for more details on how you can help.
Sponsor! Starting a Farmers Market requires a lot of equipment, marketing tools and coordination. If you would like to help out with a monetary or equipment contribution there are several levels of sponsorship to choose from. Pick up a Sponsor Packet from the retail store or contact Geana for more information.
Spread the Word! The biggest way you can help the Yelm Farmers Market is by spreading the word to farmers, artisans, friends, family, everyone you know. Our whole community benefits with the opening of a fresh market full of local products from our very own farmers and producers in a venue full of vibrancy, learning and fellowship. That’s worth talking about!
