Supporting Local Businesses

We ran across this on Facebook and although it is about shopping at family owned businesses, it is equally applicable to member owned businessess like the Yelm Food Co-op. Thanks to the lovely ladies at Sound Learning who posted this on their FB page last month. Shopping at the Yelm Food Co-op keeps your hard earned dollars circulating through the Yelm community. They don’t get sent to another state – they stay here to help Yelm.

You see, they’ve been completely dependent upon corporate transportation to get the groceries to the store; they want to create food sustainability “by creating an internal web of locally harvested food and educational programs that will teach a new generation to be food smart and operate … Continue reading…

Thurston County Annual Business Recognition Awards

One of members nominated us for this annual award in the category of non-profits and described the great, innovative changes we have embarked upon. This is an initiative of the Thurston County Economic Development Council (EDC). We were not selected, the Faith Harvest Helpers here in Yelm were, and they certainly deserve it for the tremendous work they do providing food to homeless and needy people in our area. However, we did receive a letter from the Executive Director of the EDC, Michael Cade, in which he said, “Although your organization has not gone onto the finalist stage, we would … Continue reading…
