Beer & Brats is an annual community event the Yelm Food Cooperative hosts during the Yelm Prairie Days Parade in June. Parade watchers get to enjoy a delicious, locally-sourced bratwurst from Stewarts’ Meats along with a beer and wine garden. Proceeds from the event support Co-op programs and the Co-op store.

“Prairie Days brings thousands of people together,” says Co-pop Board Member Marilyn Reardon, who conceived the idea for the event in 2013. “We offer them easy, delicious food that they can walk away with, but also a beer and wine tent for people who want to sit and chat with their friends. We want to contribute to the fun of the celebration and also let the community know there’s a great natural foods store right in the middle of town.”

The community response has been fantastic, she says. “The first time we opened up there was a line waiting for us before we were even set up.” All the more reason volunteers are important. According to Marilyn, it takes about 35 people to help organize the event. If you’d like to help, contact the Co-op at
