New: Trumpet Royale Mushrooms
We have a new Mushroom in our produce chiller: the Trumpet Royale, which is related to the Oyster mushrooms. They have a wonderful savory flavor anda firm, meaty texture. Chefs in some of the country’s finest restaurants have remarked on its versatility and will often use it in place of wild mushrooms.
The cap and stems of this mushroom are best marinated and then grilled or roasted in order to render them tender and moist. You can cut the stems in rounds and prepare them like scallops. The texture is crunchy and firm, like a portobello mushroom cap. Trim off only the very end of the stem and give them a light brushing to remove dirt.
Our Assistant Manager Debera says that they are absolutely delicious and taste like chicken. Come and get your share while they are on special!

L-Ergothioneine is the only antioxidant that has been found to have its own cellular transport mechanism and is regarded as a” master antioxidant”. Unlike other nutrients, L-Ergothioneine is not made by the human body and must be sourced from other sources in our diet. King Trumpet mushrooms also a good source of selenium, another essential antioxidant. Several recent studies have turned up even more impressive potential health benefits of King Trumpet mushrooms.
